How hiring status is updated
We only list employers that currently have open casual or seasonal (temporary) roles. We check once a day: we reopen each employer's official careers page and job ads to confirm the role is still listed, the closing date has not passed and the employment type is casual, and we spot-check the ABN status. Employers whose ads have closed or filled, or that have not been successfully checked for more than 10 days, are removed from the list automatically; seasonal employers are added back automatically when they start hiring again. Full-time and permanent part-time roles, and roles whose ad does not state the employment type, are not listed.
How online reviews are compiled
Each employer's "Online reviews and past workers' experiences" section is compiled from ratings on job sites such as Indeed and Glassdoor, backpacker blogs and forums (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English), and public records such as news reports, the Fair Work Ombudsman and regulator announcements. Everything is paraphrased — we do not repost original text — and every item links to its source with a date. Ratings are often for the whole group rather than that particular site; the page says which.
Disclaimer
- This site is an independently compiled information site. It is not the official site of the Australian Government or of any employer or agency, and it has no partnership or advertising relationship with the employers listed.
- This site is for information only and is not migration, legal, tax or financial advice. Whether your specified work days are accepted is ultimately decided by the Department of Home Affairs.
- Jobs, pay, hours, accommodation and hiring status can change at any time. We check every day, but changes between checks cannot be reflected immediately. Confirm with the employer before applying and before starting work, and keep your contract, payslips and work records.
- Online reviews, experiences and user reviews are third parties' personal experiences; they may be out of date, one-sided or inaccurate, and do not represent this site's views. News and official records only state publicly reported facts and do not mean the employer still has the same problems today.
- Every entry has a source; if a source differs from this site, the original source prevails. If you find an error, you canlet us know, and we will correct it as soon as possible.
- If you are underpaid, face unreasonable deductions or an unsafe workplace, contact the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94, free interpreting available).
How the overall score is calculated
Specified work eligibility is a threshold: locations that do not qualify are always marked "Does not count", and qualifying ones get no extra points. The other seven items are each scored 0–10 and weighted: online reviews 25%, pay transparency 20%, accommodation 15%, transport 10%, legal and transparent 10%, amenities 10%, weather 10%. 7.5 or above is marked "Recommend", 6.0–7.4 "Worth considering" and below 6.0 "Consider carefully".
- Online reviews: star ratings from Indeed, Glassdoor and similar sites (out of 5) are converted to 0–10. When there are only a few reviews, the score is pulled towards the middle value of 6 (as if 20 reviews scoring 6 were added first), so a handful of good reviews cannot push it up too far; employers with no rating get 6, neither a bonus nor a penalty. News and official records from the last 10 years lower the score: an official finding of underpayment −3, other official penalties or fines −1.5, allegations or disputes reported in the news −0.5.
- Pay transparency: hourly rate 7, both hourly and piece rate 6, piece rate only 4, unknown 4; amount stated in the ad +2, pay frequency stated +1.
- Accommodation: provided by the employer 10, employer helps arrange it 8, find your own 5, unknown 5. Transport: no car needed 10, car recommended 8, car required 6, unknown 5.5.
- Legal and transparent: ABN active +5, employed directly by the company +4 (licensed labour hire +3, other labour hire +1), industry certified +1. Amenities: large town nearby 10, small town 8, remote 5. Weather: starts at 10, with points taken off for the number of days a year above 35°C and below 0°C.
Scores compare each job with other specified work jobs: most of them are in the countryside and need a car, so those count as ordinary conditions rather than dropping to 0. Items we could not find (to be confirmed) score lower than confirmed good conditions, so a job only scores higher when its information is more complete, its conditions are better and its reviews are better. The score only reflects how clear the public information is and how favourable the conditions are — not how easy the job is — so be sure to read reviews from past workers.
Review guidelines
Reviews must be about your own experience. Do not post phone numbers, full names or other personal details, or unproven accusations. Reviews that break these rules will be hidden.
