Duties & requirements
Work duties
General maintenance of on-site buildings, equipment, machinery and facilities; installing, maintaining and troubleshooting piggery feed systems and controllers; servicing small engines, vehicles and pumps; arc and MIG welding, fabrication and repairs; plumbing repairs and installation (including poly pipe and EF electrofusion welding); removing, servicing and reinstalling effluent and irrigation pumps; installing, operating and maintaining climate control systems; basic construction and concrete repairs; working at heights and in confined spaces when required; helping with parts stock and purchasing; keeping the workshop and tools tidy.
Pay method
Hourly rate
$32–$33/hour (the ad gives a pay range).
Hours
50 hours a week, overtime available; Monday–Thursday 6:00–16:00, Friday 6:00–14:00
Requirements
Experience as a trades assistant, in maintenance, farm work or labouring, Can use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment; mechanically minded, Machinery experience; basic welding or fabrication a big plus, Hard-working, able to work alone or in a team, safety-minded, Fit enough for indoor and outdoor work, Willing to work at a piggery and follow biosecurity and animal welfare rules, Pass a pre-employment medical (including alcohol and drug testing), Available Monday to Friday
Licences
Australian driver's licence (essential)
The job is maintaining facilities and equipment at a piggery, not looking after the animals directly; whether it counts as specified work depends on Home Affairs rules (support work may currently be accepted on a temporary basis), so check before applying and keep records of your duties.
